The Involvement of Citizens in Governance Design

neurotechnology.jpeg

Trust thought for the day - about the involvement of citizens in governance design to help make regulation of neurotech both trust worthy (particularly aligned to societal values) and trusted.

This really was an enjoyable panel with great fellow panelists. I was wondering if we can take a leaf from the EU's new AI regulations and use citizen engagement to define the No go areas, High Risk, Watchout and Green light areas for neurotech? Much as the Citizen Council on Biometrics did for Facial Recognition which will be reflected in UK rules. However, none of this will help address the issue of how we debate the issues of 'changing what it is to be human' which I pondered too.

Anyone interested in knowing more, take a look at the Royal Society Report iHuman and the great short animation they produced in accompaniment. There is some funky, wonderful and downright scary stuff coming up folks!
