More on the Importance of Trustworthy Governance

Trust thought for the day - back to the importance of trustworthy governance - that which upholds the public interest and holds companies to account for their impacts. Moving, as the excellent PA Consulting Rethinking Regulators report says from being 'watchdogs of industry to champions of the public'.

Good article here from ex MEP Marietje Schaake calling for better governance.

"Lawmakers in democratic countries, particularly the US, are currently making it all to easy for companies to set their own rules....

"The world can learn from this success (the GDPR). Tech companies do not have a mandate to decide on the parameters of access to information, the safety of journalists or the extent of privacy protections for hundreds of millions of people. Governments should not just respond to incidents but develop rules that put people’s rights, safety and security first."
