From FT:
Tech Regulators need to move fast and mend things

Good article on the Future Tech Forum and the problems facing governments regulating tech. In summary: Tech is vital & useful, digital exclusion needs to be addressed, regulators need to do something, but they are too powerful and wiping the floor with you and grappling with something like Amazon which is 7 different businesses is hard. (However, isn't it just a conglomerate. Regulate the subsidiaries, not the head office?)

"Unless governments massively raise their own game when it comes to technology, they will forever remain beholden to its providers. As one regulator lamented: “It is difficult to trust what you cannot master.”

This intrigues me. If you could master it, you wouldn't have to trust it surely? Can you ever master anything, certainly a company through regulation. If you sub 'control' for 'master' then it looks more obvious.

May update during the day as brain chugs this over! Roger Miles Ruth Steinholtz Christian Hunt Markus Krebsz Mathew Mytka any thoughts?
