Why don’t we learn our lessons

Trust thought for today - why don't we learn from the past?

I liked this, thanks Guido. I have been pondering this for years wondering why don't we learn these lessons when they keep cropping up again and again - eg why each type of tech launch makes the same mistakes. I think lots to learn from this work.

I think there could be more about how heavily the status quo really does actually anchor us to the present given the powerful shackle of current incentives; lack of visionary go to ideas for us to hitch ourselves too, and of course the power issue.

I also had a similar circular conversation about power with a small multi-stakeholder group, with senior policy people, investors, businesses and NGOs all who quite genuinely felt that everyone thought they had all the power, but in fact they had none, and the other lot had all the power. I think it wasn't so much 'strategic ignorance' as 'wilful powerlessness' or something like that!

Worth a look at this following our discussions on and off over the years about this Anja Kaspersen, Wendell WallachNicholas DavisThomas Philbeck.

Quite a few things written on this, since George Marshall's excellent 2014 book 'Why we are all hard wired to avoid climate change' but not much change.
