Earning vs building trust dilemma
Trust thought for today - about earning vs building trust.
The power of trust is in your hands
I was well ahead of Rachel with the earning and building trust distinction and the whole trustworthy thing I'm pleased to say! But this is a good run through on why it is important.
"When a leader asks, "How do I build trust within my team?" there is an implicit assumption that they deserve trust because they are the ones in control. Trust no longer works in a top-down, vertical way. You don't just "build trust," power, and authority, you earn it."
HOWEVER I have recently had interesting feedback which is making me think again. Earning trust is too associated with money and transactions - you do this, you get trust. Or not. Where building trust is about one brick at a time until there is a structure. Hmm. interesting. I am now using 'inspire' trust a bit more. eg more about what I do and people can decide or not whether to trust. Baggage there too!
Love any more ideas?
She also talks about when trust is lost can it be regained. Anyone interested in that check out my 10 min YouTube vid on
