Bullshit…Trust…Governance mashup!

Trust thought for today - an interesting article which nicely melds my recent threads on bullshit and trust and governance!

Guardian did a good job here in their article on regulatory changes post Brexit highlighting particular areas of Bullshit in the announcement about how the government will address the 'mammoth task' of removing or improving EU laws. Highlights include:

- 'bonfire of the laws'
- 'legislative sausage machine'
- 'massive regulatory cull'
- 'bonfire of red tape'
- 'supercharge the AI ecosystem'

Meanwhile - Marks and Spencer closes all its stores in France because the red tape actually caused by Brexit means it had become 'near impossible' to maintain standards of food supply.

Forgive me if I don't immediately therefore trust the public interest remit, impartiality and competence of the "standards commission (which) would be established and, “under visible and energetic leadership”, would be able to pick up “ideas from any British citizen on how to repeal or improve regulation”. Or I am sure (not) welcome thoughts that most of the existing laws were pretty good and will need to be adhered to anyway if we are to do business with the EU, our biggest trading partner.

It was enlightening and chilling to see the deliberate creation of Bullshit to manipulate and mislead in relation to Brexit, in Channel 4's Brexit - The Uncivil War with Benedict Cumberbatch as Cummings - particularly the germination of the referendum winning 'Take Back Control'.

Do you think this comes under the heading of 'institutionalised gaslighting' Roger Miles? Perhaps it is just plain bullshit though perhaps even ordinary lies? Ian McCarthy
