My workshop on Bullsh*t & Jargon!

Trust thought for Today - what the heck, some self-promo! Back to Bullsh*t and trust again.

I had proper fun researching and presenting this workshop on Jargon and Bullsh*t for Apolitical, with lots of great interaction and ideas on the most irritating forms of BS from the audience. (Astonishing 550 people at the peak and 1342 registered, which says alot about how fantastic the Apolitical platform is, and how much more interesting this subject is to people rather than me banging on about the importance of regulation of tech!)

In it I cover:

* My challenge to existing definitions of Bullsht and some of the most unpopular examples (many of which I use all the time!)

* Thoughts on why we do it and examples of the types of language prevalent in each of 4 areas (including an audience poll of my 4 suggestions with an overwhelming favourite!)

* Consequences for trust, distrust and organisational effectiveness

* Introduction to Ian McCarthy and colleagues C.R.A.P. framework and how to use it (including a couple of modifications) and his Organisational Bullsht Perception Scale

* How to communicate with Clarity - including George Orwell's wonderful 6 Rules for Writing, the Hemingway Editor to help adhere to those, ideas from my experience and my How Writing Happens chart which went down very well (and was my second most popular Trust Thought for Today post of 2021!)

I'm writing it up as an article with further thoughts on the why this language is so catchy, and, maybe, alternatives to use instead!
