The wrong use of the word trust by WEF/Ipsos
Trust thought for today - what are you trusted for - and misuse of the word trust which adds to the confusion about what trust actually means.
Mildly interesting research from the WEF and Ipsos Mori suggesting citizens, quite sensibly, on the whole expect the covid recovery to take a while and tracking who is most optimistic and pessimistic.
But I question the use of the word trusted in the research question - 'Which of these do you TRUST most to lead the recovery'. An inappropriate use of the word trust, which for me should be replaced with simply 'Who do you believe should take primary responsibility for the recovery.' or 'What % contribution should these actors make to the recovery' or some such.
An NGO will not be trusted to lead the recovery on account of, err, that not being their job. However, it could be that they play a useful role as they provide an important catalyst to make others play their part effectively and a role in delivery in some area. But that's an answer to another question.
If trust is used, it could be in the context of 'do you trust business to play their part in a recovery?' Which evaluates the perceived trustworthiness of business in their designated role.
Do you agree?
I am on the look out for where I think trust is used in the wrong context.
