Trust and the NHS

A couple of days off from Trust Thought for the Day while I had a minor op on my wrist. Nothing like a General Anaesthetic to make one mindful trust! Lying there I thought which of our 7 Signals of Trustworthiness was responsible for my total trust:

1 Intent - their intent was 100% my quality of life. I crashed my bike into a lamppost in July, and broke a bone in my hand, which usually doesn't heal, but miraculously did. But I had restricted movement & a discomfort. So they did some procedures to alleviate that. They didn't need to.

2 Competence. Deep deep competence with absolutely everyone I met. Of course the surgeon, and the wonderful anaesthetist who's skill was so amazing I was totally OK and walking around after an hour and a half. And literally everyone I came into contact with. Just humbling.

3 Respect. I could totally see it and feel it from everyone I met at every point, again at every level. Very clear to see that in action in micro moments. Very different to corporate interactions I had during the week.

So thanks Mr Karthik Karuppaiah and your wonderful team at Orpington Hospital. Please send my grateful thanks to everyone. I shall be thinking of you at my first game of tennis in a while on Monday!

Have a great Easter everyone.
