There are no accidents - why systems thinking is the way forward

Trust thought for today - An absolute must listen podcast from Christian Hunt interviewing Jessie Singer author of 'There are no accidents'

This has been dawning on me in the last few years, which is why I have moved from 30 years of trying to change things though corporate responsibility and getting companies to see the error of their ways to a focus on regulation and the importance of system thinking in which all stakeholders are involved with governance. These are at the heart of the solutions that Jessica talks about. A couple of things to add:

NGOs listening to this will be banging their heads on their desks in despair, this is no news to them. They have been talking about the need for systemic thinking and the abuse of corporate power and the impact on the vulnerable in every area mentioned here and more, for many many decades. The financial and regulatory system insistence that 'right to make money' trumps everything else is barking bonkers. There is an 'emperor's new clothes' moment to come sometime, surely soon!

I have been banging on alot as Wendell Wallach, Anja Kaspersen, Nicholas Davis and Thomas Philbeck and many others know about much more work need on "Why don't we learn'. You guys may be interested in this work.

Jessie Singer you will I am sure know and if not be interested in the work of Christopher Hodges OBE and Ruth Steinholtz who have also been looking at blame, regulation and culture of organisations.

I wrote this article below recently about 'How people are not the problem and deterrence is not the key" from Chris's new book out soon about the fundamental problem with seeing individuals as liable and what that does to culture and the focus on alternative legal structures. Your point about Medical 'Accidents' was a smack the head moment in relation to this, of course, I also look at language and missed that entirely! I am doing a short version for someone, will include.

After your vacation and naps Jessie it would be fascinated to chat and introduce you if needed to to Chris and Ruth. The book is on my computer and will start reading it now.
