What is an expert?

Trust thought for today (2!) - I'm trying to categorise expertise for the purposes of the Framework for Meaningful Engagement I am co-creating with ECNL - anyone with research or ideas, love to know!

I have so far:

EXPERT - x has significant expertise in y which is central to the issue

LIVED EXPERIENCE - x has expertise based on personal and direct experience relating to the issue

RELEVANT/INDIRECT EXPERTISE - x has knowledge of z, which is not directly focused on this issue, but this area of knowledge is relevant to our understanding of the issue or understanding of lived experience of the issue

VALUES BASED EXPERTISE - This issue relates to a fundamental question of values. It is important to connect this issue to the underlying values which have or may shape it. Everyone has expertise on values to contribute to the issue.

Caitlin Connors (she/they) I don't know if you have thoughts on this?

The idea was stimulated by a re-read of the excellent document from the European Commission's Joint Research Centre Understanding our Political Nature - Laura Smillie Laurent Bontoux don't know if you have thoughts or something specific on this? Link to this interesting report here:
