Looking at things a different way does wonders
Trust thought for the day - here's an interesting and odd one, about looking at things in a different way.
A wild triple-decker sandwich’: world’s first multistorey skatepark lands in Folkestone
In my second year of TTFT I have been trying NOT to focus 'problem framing'. It's so much easier to complain than think of what to do instead. Of course problems have to be identified, but frankly I think there's enough on pretty much every problem.
So this one popped up today - the first multi-story skate park. But not just that. The brainchild of rich guy Sir Roger de Haan, the founder of Saga holidays empire has since pumped millions into the regeneration of Folkestone in collaboration with the town - an academy school and a sports centre, set up numerous galleries and studios, and transformed the harbour with a new promenade. Now the biggest skatepark in the world, also with climbing walls and boxing venue. A great venue and coaching programme with local schools will run skateboarding classes as well as workshops covering graphic design, videography and skatepark design. Yes, making skateparks a thing has been done before, but "they were run like golf clubs, with expensive membership fees and officious management, so most closed". This is a real collaborative effort with the town and skaters and costs £1 a month for after school membership for kids.
This was the line which got me: "We wanted this to be a beacon right in the centre, saying to young people, ‘You’re the most important customer in town – because you are the future.’”
