My Principles for Responsible Innovation
Trust thought for today - Principles for Responsible Innovation - for innovations society can trust

I am being interviewed for a podcast by Carnegie Council for AI and Equality tomorrow and they wanted me to do a quick run-through of how I got to here.
I dug up this, first developed in partnership with Rachel Crossley then at Insight Investment one of the pioneers of ESG (then called SRI) in 2007 as the Responsible Nano Code. It was clear that nano was not a special case and so evolved it to be applicable to any type of innovation.
They helped shape the European Commission's Responsible Innovation thinking (who asked me to write them up for them in 2010), and right up to date in contributing to the OECD Recommendation on Responsible Neurotechnologies.
They are great. Why did I ever let this workstream drop! This is the exec summary from 2018:
The principles are:
Principle 1 - Deliver social, environmental and economic benefit
Principle 2 - Evaluate risks and wider impacts
Principle 3 - Involve people in understanding the above
Principle 4 - Demonstrate Radical Transparency
Principle 5 - Embrace good governance
Principle 6 - Welcome early warnings to address negative impacts
I think I decided to dig more into the trust area and got carried away with that - maybe I will start again!
Thanks Anja Kaspersen and Wendell Wallach and Diana M. Bowman for the timely reminder. Look forward to tomorrow's podcast recording!
Hey and thanks also Rachel Crossley for taking hold of my half-baked idea and making it work in the real world!
