Trust and civil society organisations?
Trust thought for today - trust and civil society organisations
Very good article on the World Economic Forum blog by Lysa John Berna the head of the fantastic organisation CIVICUS https://civicus.org/
Trust: How to amplify the essential work of NGOs and CSOs
CSOs really came into their own during covid, some great examples cited here. But trust in them generally fell. This article explores this. The reasons notably were their deliberate undermining by groups seeking to curb civic freedoms and the negative attention on traditional NGOs and their approach. But as they suggest this model constitutes only a tiny sliver of the civil society sphere.
"New platforms and forms of civic engagement are emerging that enable more direct action, collaboration, and sustained opposition to systemic injustices."
"The future of civil society lies in being able to fulfil its historic role of promoting rights, defending democracy, and asserting accountability. Our ability to respond to new and increasingly complex societal challenges requires the emergence of newer and more dynamic forms of civil society."
I have long felt that civil society organisations are our best hope for drawing attention to problems and co-creating inclusive solutions. They need all the help they can get. We must support and promote their excellent work.
