AI-mediated communication makes us get on better….

Trust thought for today - wondering what eventually happens to trust when we are so mediated by machines that what we write and say is changed.

This article in WIRED on AI mediated communication, which is already widespread, is invoked every sort of reaction from me at the same time!

What Happens When an AI Knows How You Feel?

Technology used to only deliver our messages. Now it wants to write them for us by understanding our emotions.

It shows how constant monitoring of your language and intonation and 'helpful' prompts on alternative ways to communicate makes people get on better, be more civilised, communicate in a more positive way and can even keep troubled families out of the courts.

In some areas, AI modifies a sender’s messages to be more positive, more funny, or extroverted, which goes down well and helps them get on better with people. It may even make the sender’s self-perception shift towards being more positive, funny, or extroverted and so change their entire personality. Is that good or bad, particularly when social media at the moment does the exact opposite?

Quite a few apps mentioned here show real benefits for people in ways you wouldn't expect. It's quite hard to see if this an uncontrolled skid down the slippery slope to disaster, the end of authentic relationships as we know them, or a way to help heal our polarised society?

Who knows. Susie Alegre you will have something to say I am sure. I don't think it's paywalled, but sorry if so.
